“I could,” he finally said. “I won’t.”
Ryan can read everyone's thoughts except Shane's. When the only other person he meets whose thoughts he can't read is a demon, who's kind of after his soul, except his soul apparently already belongs to Shane, he should probably be horrified. But he really isn't.
