    Summary

A field of sunflowers enclosed by deepslate walls. The porch of Trader Scar's juts out from SR, old wounds patched with fresh planks. The curtains are open, but the stage lights are off. The house lights cast the set in harsh shadow. The AUDIENCE sits in the house, eyes fixed ahead.

    Summary

"Nothing, nothing." Scar patted Mumbo's cheek condescendingly. "You can go back to sleep now."

"Come on, what is it?" Mumbo sat up, trying to rub the drowsiness from his eyes.

In lieu of an answer, Scar reached into Mumbo's hair. Mumbo felt a sharp pinch, and then Scar's hand retreated. Grasped between his index finger and thumb was a single gray hair.

Mumbo's going gray. For real, this time. He feels no particular way about this whatsoever, where did you get that totally inaccurate impression from?

    Summary

The Mumbo-shaped blob in his arms chuckled and stepped back, solidifying into a Mumbo-shaped Mumbo. Mumbo bent down and scooped his bundles up. One of Cub's fireworks shot into the sky, its hiss-boom marking the hour even if it was too bright to see it. He glanced down at his wristwatch. "Scar, are you actually early for a date?"

"Hey, what's that supposed to mean!"

Mumbo and Scar spend the afternoon together. The shopping district may be dissolving into anarchy around them, but it's fine. It's Scar's (unofficial) (unapproved) day off, and neither he nor Mumbo is involved in the chaos whatsoever.

    Summary

"That's the Goose. Those three stars are the head, the trapezoid underneath is the body, and that one really bright star underneath is the leg." Mumbo drew the shapes across the sky as he spoke, connecting each part in turn. Scar had to tilt his head to get the right angle, but it did look like a goose. Kind of.

"And this is a real constellation?"

"Oh, absolutely, one hundred percent. Here, I'll show you another one—"

Scar and Mumbo both can't sleep. They find some comfort in watching the stars and even (gasp!) talking about what's bothering them.

    Summary

Mumbo's response is scrawled below. I WILL STAY HERE.

Scar thought about how to reply to that for a long time. Ignoring everyone's concern about your rapid aging is one thing. Putting your brain into a computer (or into a chicken in the computer? He isn't clear on that part) is one thing. But when it's time for the server to shut down, everyone needs to leave. Mumbo should know this.

And yet he remains in his machine.

As the curtain closes on Season 10, Scar tries to convince Mumbo to leave the server with them.

    Summary

Elves were said to possess an ethereal beauty. Mumbo had seen players dressed as them at banquets he had been forced to attend, wigs tied back in complex braids, fake ears coming to a fine point, an otherworldly dusting of glitter on their cheeks. The elves in these plays were always eloquently spoken, as wise as their many years would suggest. They breathed magic; they cared not for humans. They were cold and unwelcoming to trespassers.

None of these were ways he would describe Scar.

Over the past year, Mumbo, a human engineer fleeing a dull life in the castle, and Scar, an eccentric elf living alone in the woods, have formed a close friendship. Mumbo admires Scar, with no real hopes of anything being reciprocated. He is utterly incorrect about that.

"Hm?" Scar looked at the stands, then widened his eyes. "Oh. Uh—tour's on a tight schedule, so we gotta keep it moving! There will be time for questions at the end!" His voice pitched upward with obvious panic.

Now he had Mumbo's curiosity piqued. Mumbo took a few steps closer to the bench and stopped in his tracks. The other figure was smaller than him, and its face was… It looked like…

"Scar, why have you built me and our future child?" he blurted out.

Mumbo gets a personal tour of the completed Scarfari Zoo. He's not expecting a certain armor stand display.

    Summary

“Mumbo and Skizz and I are all holed up in one of the little caves down in the cliff, and I can’t get a wink of sleep. It’s awful. Please?”

“Unless I’m getting that lovely diamond armor, that’s a no,” Scar said, flashing Grian a grin. “Besides, your cave’s gotta be way better than up here. Sleeping under the cherry blossoms is nice until you wake up with petals in your mouth.”

Grian snorted at that, the first normal reaction Scar had gotten out of him, but his expression remained strained. His gaze dropped to his lap with a sigh, his face fully hidden from Scar.

“Look, I didn’t want to say it, but it’s— I can't help it. Stupid avian instinct thing.”

Grian claims his instincts are forcing him to sleep in Scar's bed at night. Scar buys it until he doesn't.

    Summary

He had vague memories of a time before he was a Master. He and his friend Seawatt had lived together in a world with solid ground beneath their feet. They’d gone on adventures together, and somewhere along the way, that had led to creating this civilization.

Some parts didn’t make sense—he couldn’t remember ranking up, even though he must have started as a Noob. But thinking about it too hard made his head hurt, so he tried not to. That had worked well for him so far.

Evbo starts life as a Master, never knowing the cruelty of the Noob layer. He meets Seawatt and changes nothing.

    Summary

Having food had never been a concern for him, besides his brief stint in the cut-off Fighter layer. But because of Seawatt, Evbo had spent years of his life starving and was still bonier than he ought to have been. If Seawatt hadn’t been running the lab, the Champion just would have gotten someone else to do it, and he’d had nothing to do with the food situation, but still. That didn’t make it any less his fault.

If he couldn’t fix Evbo’s past, he could at least try to bring joy to his present.

This was how he found himself digging through his old journals for his mother’s chicken curry recipe.

People have started leaving food offerings to Evbo. Seawatt gets in on the trend (with a little help from EMF).

    Summary

The thoughts he came out here to escape from have almost left his mind when he steps on a crystal, and a voice calls out.

“This is far enough out of the way that even the Champion shouldn’t be an issue. Evacuate everyone here until he’s out of the crystal village.”

Evbo freezes in his tracks, momentum almost sending him over the edge of the block. In all his wanderings in the crystal lands, he has never found a new message. He thought they must have all been erased somehow in the process of reintegrating the layer into Civilization, but there is no way this recording is recent.

    After all, it’s Seawatt’s voice.

After Seawatt's death, Evbo finds a series of crystals with his voice recorded on them. It doesn't make him feel any better.

    Summary

When the flesh had been consumed, organs, muscles, bone marrow and all, the remaining scraps would be tossed into the Void. With that, the player was freed from the mortal realm, their body now safely scattered throughout the community.

Evbo had thought nothing odd about this in all his years as a Noob. He knew to be careful of Pros, as they often interfered with the ceremony, but the Pros interfered in any activity a Noob might do.

It wasn’t until he ranked up that he realized eating the dead wasn’t normal on the Pro layer.

Before Evbo can revive Seawatt, he must hold a funeral. He does it the only way he knows how.

    Summary

Evbo hopped onto one of the stools, his legs dangling just above the ground. “Taking me out for drinks now, are you?”

“And what’s so wrong with that?” Seawatt shot back, slipping onto his own stool. “It’s your big victory feast. You ought to be celebrating with fountains of champagne.”

“By that logic, since this is the anniversary of your crushing defeat, you should be drowning your sorrows in cheap booze.”

“There we find ourselves a shared goal: getting drunk. Who knew we had so much in common?”

A feast is held on the anniversary of the Parkour Villain’s defeat. Evbo has never really drunk before, and Seawatt helps him change that. Shenanigans ensue.

    Summary

Martin’s phone was still in his pocket from earlier. He pulled it out to check the time, squinting against the brightness of the screen before the display eventually resolved into something resembling a quarter to seven on Saturday.

It ought to have been not a surprise, maybe, but at least concerning that he’d slept for close to fifteen hours straight. He tried to muster up the worry that was a requirement for being Martin Blackwood and came up empty.

    He simply did not care.

After officially taking his place as Peter Lukas's assistant, Martin develops a peculiar cold.

“In the years since she became Master in all but name, a lot has changed, and yet it seems like nothing has. Pearly is as short as ever, her long-awaited growth spurt seeming less and less likely to come. Nick's been disbarred longer than he was barred in the first place.

And Maya is still terrified of what will happen when she finally finishes her training.”
