There is something in his throat, something crawling up from his lungs. His throat spasms around it, and he coughs violently, dislodging the thing from his chest. It’s waxy and bitter in his mouth, almost like pepper. He spits it out on the desk. It’s slender and pink, about the length of his forefinger.
