Those words, spoken by Bokuto at seventeen, nineteen, twenty-two, had hurt enough to linger, timbre and pitch and intensity all burned into the worn-down edges of his memory: Akaashi, I’m seeing someone!

    “Bokuto-san,” he said, his own voice hoarse and cracking. “I’ve been seeing someone.”
