Summary
Let’s switch up the timeline a little bit:
Maul is captured by Ahsoka before the Chancellor is being kidnapped, thus Order 66 doesn’t happen just yet. Instead Maul is taken to Coruscant to stand trial.
At the same time, an Exploration Corp finds note of an ancient artifact of great importance, but has trouble locating it. For the artifact to be located and activated, it needs both, a Jedi and a Sith. Good thing the Order has one at hand. Obi-Wan, unwilling to put another Jedi at risk, volunteers to work with Maul. Maul is, surprisingly, quite cooperative.
Together, they challenge destiny.

“Is that…you Granger?” Theo asked, staring at the face of thirteen year-old Hermione Granger. He’d know the face anywhere. He was very familiar with every stage of Hermione Granger’s appearance, as he’d spend much of his Hogwarts years staring at her from across the library. He hadn’t been brave enough to talk to her as a teenager, not only because it was hard to approach a crush, but also because he'd known that making his private affection for the muggle-born witch anything but private would bring them both trouble. Between the other boys in Slytherin, his father, and the brewing war, trying to get close to Hermione Granger would have been stupid and Theo had never been stupid.
Hermione blinked at Nott’s question, which would have made no sense if the circumstances were any different. “We’ve gone back in time,” she breathed between them even as she scarcely accepted the situation.

This war had changed her.
And it hadn’t made itself known until she’d seen Harry and Ron on the ground - their eyes glassy and their skin grey - not until her best friends were dead before her own eyes, only then did she realise that she would do anything, go to any length, to end this fucking war. She would be ruthless. She would pry weapons and advantages from cold, dead hands if the occasion called for it. She’d feel the guilt later, when she had time and safety on her side to let it consume her. For now, she’d only do what was necessary to survive. And fucking win.
