Summary
From the day he was granted sentience. Since the day his lovingly handwired body was given what a proud father would proclaim to be ‘life’, but was more appropriately deemed ‘sentience’. Tartar has never felt.
He’s felt distain, pride, amusement, other things, sure - but those were all……. artificial. Yes, he felt them. His code had them programmed in - to act as similar to a biological lifeform as one could force an AI to be - but they never felt. Real.
They were implemented only for specific purposes, not to run rampant and take control.
Emotions get in the way. They are a silly hinderance that once surfaced, can never quite stay buried.

Zelda nodded along with Link’s words. “You’re right. We’ll need to secure the champions and their Divine Beasts. But the guardians… they will need to be dismantled. They hold a greater threat than the beasts. And… there’s the matter of getting my past self to unlock her sacred power.”
“And you unlocked yours when…”
“When I acted in love for you,” she finished, meeting his gaze. “We need to get our past selves to realize their feelings.”
“You’re saying we need to play matchmaker.”
“Yes.”
“For our past selves.”
“Yes.”
He dragged a hand down his face. “We’re doomed.”

Or: Post-ToTK Link and Zelda, happily married, are investigating a series of disappearances when they’re suddenly sent to before the Calamity. They take it upon themselves to save everyone from impending doom, which includes helping their past selves get along. It’s a lot easier said than done. Oh, and more people are disappearing. “Hm, yes.” Ghirahim said thoughtfully. “Perhaps it was that time you - what is the phrase? Ah. Yes. ‘Littered.’” He delivered the word with exaggerated scandal.
... Or a rewrite of an old orphaned fic of mine in which Sky takes on Ghirahim as his sword.
