Summary
“There you are,” Helen murmurs, lifting Carol’s chin with a gentle touch. “So handsome.”
Carol’s hypothetical murder ceases instantly, and her entire frame softens, relaxing under Helen’s words. She opens her mouth to say something again, probably an apology, but Helen’s lips are on hers, swallowing whatever words she was going to attempt to force out.
Helen’s voice is firmer when she speaks again, “You need to relax.”
“I need a lot of things,” Carol mumbles.
“You need to listen to me, pretty boy,” Helen counters, running her thumb along Carol’s bottom lip.
She can see the urge to argue flash in Carol’s eyes, so Helen narrows her gaze, daring her to try it. She wouldn’t put it past Carol. It’s happened plenty of times, each one ending with tear-stained cheeks and the inability to sit comfortably for a few days.

The break of dawn always comes like a breath of fresh air. Cool at first, like the dampness of the dew that rests on blades of grass; but the warmth of the rising sun quickly permeates what sat dormant overnight, bringing it to life. The golden glow of the sun that peeks over the horizon blazes light years away, but it somehow comes from within.
That’s what it feels like. The same cycle. It happens over and over again, yet the awe never eludes them. Every time that fire burns within them, it’s a new beginning, a new opportunity.

Summary

To most people, the first was no longer relevant, a memory of knowledge now shifted to victory or defeat depending on where you kept your feet.
