Edelgard summons Felix to her tent that evening.
He frowns when he reads the missive, delivered to him by a nondescript foot soldier, under yellow lamplight. He’d really rather not. It’s been a long day. The moment of his father’s death—the sword lodged just beside his breastbone, the uncomprehending way he’d looked at Felix—is superimposed on the backs of his eyelids, and he wants nothing more than to squeeze them shut as tightly as possible and go to sleep.
But he can’t very well say no. Unwillingly, he goes.

It appears when he smiles, a minuscule divot at the left corner of his mouth. It’s a different smile than Akira remembers seeing—small and private. Smug, sometimes, but not mean.
