Summary
They lie in silence for a few moments, the only sound being the steady and slow beating of Shane’s heart on the monitor. He’s perfectly content to just bask in Ilya’s presence and form until the doctor comes back, but eventually, he can feel Ilya staring at him. So he opens his eyes and sees an expectant look on his husband’s face.
“What?” Shane questions.
“Are we going to talk about it?”
Shane’s brows draw down in confusion. “Talk about what?”
A mischievous grin splits Ilya’s face. “That I am your emergency contact.”
“Oh, my god,” Shane groans. “You are not going to make this a thing. It’s not a big deal.”

"I'm not finished," Shane says sharply. "See I was ready to have such a nice time with you. I'd planned it all out, we'd have our food and watch a film, and then at the end of the night, I'd drag you to our bedroom and let you fuck me. But you decided that talking to Marlow is more important."
"Shane, I'm sorry," Ilya begs. "I can still fuck you, please let me fuck you. I'll carry you to bed right now–"
"No, Ilya. This is what you get for ruining our evening. So I'm going to ride you, because I've been waiting for this all day... and you are going to stay on the phone, since that is clearly what you value."
The first time they went to the cottage, Ilya made Shane talk on the phone as he made him come. Several years later, Shane gets his revenge.

"When did you guys fall in love?"
"Guys," their teacher warned. "That's not a question about their careers."
Ilya was already looking at him when Shane glanced over, wearing that stupidly fond smile. Shane felt his own lips twitch in response before he could help it.
"Is very good question, actually," Ilya announced to the room. "Hard to say exact moment." He tilted his head. "But pretty fast, I think."
Shane's chest clenched. The classroom full of nine-year-olds dissolved. Max's mortification somewhere in the background didn't register.
For a moment, Shane was seventeen years old again, watching Ilya Rozanov highlights for the tenth time that week and running out of ways to explain why.
"Yeah," Shane said, voice catching slightly. "Pretty fast."
Shane and Ilya attend career day at their son's elementary school. It ends with Shane going off on another parent and embarrassing their son.
