Summary

Steve paused his drawing, flicking his eyes up to the walls with a puzzled expression.

All the air in Steve’s lungs was drained in an instant.

Summary
The Asset has been stolen. It’s not familiar with the new organization that has gotten a hold of it, but it knows it must adapt quickly, follow orders, do well, and prove itself.
But ever since waking up with bandages carefully wrapped around its torso, it has found itself questioning what its new handler wants—or, more accurately, doesn’t seem to want from it. The Captain doesn’t act like any other handler it has had before, and now the Asset feels like it doesn’t understand anything… least of all its own growing desire to stay by the Captain’s side.

“All good there, Manchurian Candidate?" Tony had asked him at his silence. Everybody else gathered around the bar turned to look. Tony rarely directly addressed Bucky.
Bucky outright ignored him, instead looking up to meet Steve's eyes, “My ma used to send me over to your place with an orange whenever you got sick.” He said tentatively, like he wasn't sure if it was a real memory or not. Steve's heart soared at the comment. It was finally happening, Bucky was getting some of his life back.
“Yea Buck, she did. Do you remember what you used to tell me while you peeled it for us?” Bucky's face scrunched at his words.
“Is something burning?”
