I hesitate with the truth. Jay knows, but I always feared it mattered more than he let on. When I confessed, relief surged, but shame pricked beneath it; Jay just shrugged and told me it was inevitable. Sometimes, remembering my admission unleashes a sharp pulse of humiliation and leaves me dizzy with want—for Matt, still. That’s the worst part. God, I am an idiot.
"Yeah, I did." I finally say. "I told Jay. I didn’t want to tell anyone else."
Matt bursts out laughing, as if he’s been holding this in forever. Finally, he sighs, and his face softens.
Eyes wide, I ask, "What? Did you tell him, too?"
"Yeah, I told him everything. He said he knew something I didn’t. Remember what that was?" -
