Summary
Wolfwood goes back for Vash during the fall of Julai. Forced to rely on human kindness - which Wolfwood doesn't trust - the pair make their way to a hospital where Wolfwood lies about their relationship to get Vash admitted. Now saddled with a new husband, a new name & a stranger trying to help him find a new profession, Wolfwood returns to Julai in hopes of finishing off Knives for good - and instead finds himself walking home with twin Independents.
A story about how Nicholas D Wolfwood learns about kindness and compassion, and that maybe - maybe - even someone like him deserves nice things (like a family?)

Vash blinked at him, his face making an exaggerated O shape "We are?" His voice was uncertain, almost a squeak.
"Yeah." Nicholas looked away before he was caught staring. "I kinda married us. Spontaneously." He licked his lips, wishing for a cigarette to take the edge off the feelings curling in his chest. "Had to change your name.
"Vash Wolfwood?" Vash ventured.
"Eriks." He replied. "Didn't think Vash was the safest name right now."

The room is silent except for the beeping of monitors.
In 2023, Shane takes a bad hit on the ice. When he wakes up, the last thing he remembers is a tuna melt.

Legato coughs, finally managing to take in a shaky inhale right as his head is starting to spin.
“What’d you do?”“You gotta be more specific, three days’re long.” Razlo sneers in response, before putting his hands up and intercepting Legato’s incoming protests. “Buuut if we narrow it down to the past like- hour or so, Beast got us to Octovern!” He moves aside and points up towards the sky, where distant lilac lights are beginning to shine over a city.

Summary
After a run-in with humans gone horribly wrong, Knives is sold off to a plant engineer who needs a new power source for his town and has other, more sinister, motivations.
Legato, having successfully freed himself from slavery and slaughtered his abusers, now seeks out slavers and settlements that support them and makes them pay for their crimes.
Eventually, he rescues Knives, and the two begin the arduous process of helping each other heal.
