The question landed between them. To Will, it felt like a loaded gun. Years of pining, and it all ended here. Will couldn’t even bring himself to lie to Mike, because how could he? His throat felt tight, like someone had lodged an object in there.

“Miami?” Lando asks abruptly, half puzzled, half amused. He lifts his head up from Oscar’s shoulder, coming eye to eye with the boy who definitely looks like he’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
The thing is, the back traces have always been absentminded. Oscar does it without thinking, and Lando receives it the same way—welcomes it, without question.
“Yes,” Oscar says simply. “It’s Miami."
Lando breaks out in a laugh. “Jesus, you’re desperate for a race, aren’t you.”
