On [ ], there is a certain phenomenon wherein animals gain human form and human level intelligence. These creatures, known among the residents of the planet as "changelings" or "shifters" (the latter is observed to be a largely derogatory term) have two main forms which they are able to transform between at will: one entirely physiologically identical to humans, and their previous animal form. They are also able to take on a sort of "chimera" form, in which they possess mostly human biology, but retain certain features from their animal forms, e.g. tails, ears, wings, antennae, talons/claws.

Summary
After tragedy struck on their wedding day, Ayato was left to navigate his grief without his fiancé by his side. Worse, he and the civilians of Teyvat began to realize that they were forgetting the face of their beloved fixer, not by their own volition but through an unknown divine intervention.
Five years passed, and he was to wed again, orchestrated by Yae Miko. Still tied to the past, he refused to see beyond his heartbreak and connect with his new fiancé, who suspiciously reminded him too much of the man in his blurry memories.
Meanwhile, a man named ‘Ulrich’ recovered from a tragedy five years ago that left him amnesiac. Despite Ayato's cold behavior towards him, he could not erase this sinking feeling in his stomach. The corridors of the Kamisato estate weren’t so unfamiliar. There was the abandoned polearm. The dull vision hanging on Ayato’s hip. The Dandelion wine inside the forbidden bedroom. The heavy weight of Ayato’s gaze and addictive touch. He and Ayato begged the same question: Who exactly was Ulrich? And what were his ties to the deceased lover of the Yashiro Commissioner: Thoma?

Kamisato Ayato hoped that the long time coming formal union of Kujou Kamaji and Hiiragi Chisato would satisfy the public, and quell their thirst for celebrity marriages. However, it seems the opposite has occurred. Immediately afterwards, and even throughout the festivities, many high-ranking officials of theirs and his own commission began to pester him.
He's approaching his 30s, and now that the Sakoku Decree has been lifted, the Vision Hunt Decree also lifted, war is no longer an acceptable excuse. But the truth is that Ayato's heart belongs to someone already. And if two of the three Commissions' heads falling in love wasn't scandalous enough for Inazuma, then Ayato's situation would certainly satisfy:
Ayato is in love with his housekeeper, and has been since nearly the day they met.
