Dean thinks, another time, it would look insignificant cradled in his broad palm, but the gentle hold makes it seem as precious as grace, and he realises far too late that this was never something he had to hide from the angel at all.

Shit. Okay, he can do this.
'‘I- yeah. Yes.’' he responds, and seals his fate before he even registers the words leaving his mouth.
Gently manoeuvring the barely conscious omega so one of his arms is resting over Castiel’s shoulder, he begins to move as he looks to Gabriel, meeting his eyes for the briefest of moments.
'‘Lead the way,'’ he says, and doesn't look back as he crosses the point of no return.
A retelling of the amazing fic ‘Heretic Pride’ that I couldn't not write, featuring an alternative scenario where Castiel stays after the funeral and, together with Gabriel, takes in Balthazar and helps him become his future friend and co-worker.

Summary
The stagnant air seems suddenly charged, revitalised with the tangible taste of anticipation that softens the whiskey burn in the back of his throat. A gentle hush falls over the room, waiting for something that Dean doesn’t know, but finds himself swept up in anyway.
A shuffle, the sound of a door on the far side of the room opening and closing. Then, a voice.
It’s sonorous sound rings resplendent through the room, something that seems too beautiful to exist here, amongst the tobacco rough voices and rowdy shouts of the other customers, and Dean watches in something too fragile to be awe as the most beautiful man he’s ever seen makes his way to the centre of the stage.
