“I am.” Alysa frowns under her mask; she has saved both dogs and cats, thank you very much. “Just better with cats.”
“Cats are tricky,” Amber says as she raises an eyebrow. “Hard to please.”
“I like the challenge.” Alysa shrugs and presses her fingers against the gauze, trying not to let her thoughts drift to a certain woman clad in a tight, black leather suit.

Sophia, Manon scrawls on the bottom right corner of the canvas. The name was the only thing that Manon feels sure about, not even her face. The details come to her in waves—sometimes Manon will realize that the eyebrows she's drawing are too thin, or that the corners are her smile are too low, or that she's been drawing dimples that never existed in the first place.
She's biting on Sharpie cap; the taste of tangy ink rots on her tongue like how it does every time she finishes a painting. M.B., she signs on the bottom left corner, their names separated by the vast blue of the collared shirt that sweeps across on the canvas like the ocean—maybe that is what's keeping them apart.

"My name." Manon follows up with, looking expectantly at her. It takes her a few seconds before it finally registers.
"Oh." Sophia makes sure she looks intentionally disappointed this time, "Sorry, I just thought you would have a fancy, long name." She says, then pauses. "Well, I guess Ariel had a short name too."
"Who's Ariel?" Manon, frankly, looks a little offended now.
Sophia makes it her mission to fix a ship that's been sitting on the shore for ages, though it comes with its challenges and the unwelcomed company of a siren.
