Summary
How long has it been? Twenty minutes? A hundred years? Castiel isn’t sure. He shifts, closes all one hundred and thirty-two of his eyes. He pokes at the warm thing, but it is like it is part of him. Castiel thinks of Sam--the least painful person to think of--and wonders what he would do if he were in this situation. Perhaps Castiel should pick up his vessel and try to find someone to talk to, or find the Shadow and ask it to put him to sleep, but he’s not sure what the point is. Either someone will find him, or they won’t. He has eternity--what’s a little bit of being awake?

Summary
Dean lies there and listens to his own ragged breathing. It sounds soft, young, gentle. His voice is a tiny little clamour in his chest. His dad is still chanting a string of Latin over him. He's never felt smaller than when he's on a hunt with John Winchester, all gruff orders and whiskey shots.

Summary
Dean saves Castiel from the Empty, but that fixes nothing.
You do not walk into the void with a human soul and emerge unaltered.

But Dean did. Worse, Dean did it for Castiel. To rescue him. Out of friendship, fraternity. Out of love. Just—not the right kind.
Perhaps it's wrong of him, perhaps it's unfair and petty and all-too-human, but.
Castiel resents him for it.
