    Summary

“I thought you weren’t at all upset about any of this?”

    “I’m not,” Al-Haitham insists. Stubborn.

“Well, what happened then? Surely something’s bothering you, or else you wouldn’t be moving your things back and forth in the same spot like that.”

Al-Haitham’s eyes drop to his hands, between them a box filled with little trinkets—souvenirs from his trips to the desert, no doubt, gleaming gem stones and jagged blocks of stone, the old runes on them barely legible from erosion. Al-Haitham sighs.

“Nothing happened,” he begins, slow and measured, “I’m just looking for something.”

The morning after their return to Sumeru City, Al-Haitham’s cover of nonchalance is blown for good.

    Summary

Kaveh takes a deep breath and tries to control himself. “I need directions to the local art museum.”

Alhaitham speaks next. “Yeah it’s over by 9th and 4th. I’m assuming you just fumbled and messed up the address.”

“Fumbled? Have some respect for the customer. You ever hear that the customer is always right?” Although Kaveh is grateful that this guy gave him the address, (which he will definitely triple check before walking to) he’s still a bit peeved that Alhaitham definitely thinks he’s an idiot.

“I think that rule only really applies when someone is an actual customer.”

In which Kaveh is a painter and Alhaitham is a tattoo artist.

    Summary

Kaveh let out a long, satisfied sigh. "Also… you are now in the presence of the newest Kshahrewar professor!"

The couple's expressions slowly shifted from unbridled joy to something more complex. Cyno's face settled into a look of embarrassment, while Tighnari's was etched with clear worry. Kaveh found their change in demeanor deeply unsettling.

A silent exchange passed between his friends, entire paragraphs conveyed in a glance, before Tighnari finally broke the silence: "Kaveh, please, don't misunderstand. You asked us to act as if he didn't exist, so we never brought it up, but... you do know that Alhaitham never left the Akademiya, right?"

    "...What?"

"More than that," Cyno continued, his tone uncharacteristically concerned, "you do know he's the current Rector, don't you?"

Six years after the divorce, Kaveh returns to Sumeru City, only to find his routine repeatedly disrupted by his ex-husband. With every encounter, it becomes harder to ignore the ten years of history they share — until the past stops feeling like something they can simply leave behind and begins to look more like something they might dare to try again.

    Summary

“Alhaitham,” Kaveh drawls quietly, the alcohol hitting his system. “Why don’t you touch me?”

Alhaitham blinks. He wasn’t expected to be asked about this, of all things. This goes against everything he had gathered from his observations of Kaveh’s behavior.

“Because… you don’t like being touched?” Alhaitham supplies.

“But I do,” Kaveh whines. “And you never touch me.”

Or, Kaveh keeps reacting strangely when Alhaitham touches him. In observing why exactly Kaveh's behaving like this, Alhaitham realizes that what Kaveh desires aligns awfully close to his own.

Kaveh had been clear. No poetic wording. No room for misunderstandings. No room for miscommunication.

“I don’t see you that way,” Alhaitham replied flatly.

Wow. So straightforward. So concise. Zero social etiquette.

The heartbreak had not even settled in yet and Kaveh already wanted to throw him off the building.
