“My aunt and uncle had come over for dinner that night, and Uncle Ben took this on his camera.” He clears his throat. “It’s the last photo ever taken of us. They died in a plane crash a week later.”
Peter looks back up to Dick, and it’s weird, seeing a face so familiar on a completely different man.
(Peter starts to process the implications of Dick being his father & immediately runs for the hills. Dick is there to catch him when he falls anyway.)

Summary
Richard Parker is shaking his hand. Peter is shaking Richard Parker’s hand. He’s shaking his dad’s hand.
His dead dad.
Being thrust into a different universe wasn't quite what Peter was expecting. He expected to make friends in this new universe even less. One of those friends turning out to be a familiar face is just the icing on the cake.

“Your parents,” Buck hisses, anxious.
Eddie winces. “I did say this was inevitable.”
He did. And it was, but the sentiment doesn’t make him feel better.

Buck and Eddie meet and fall in love years before either of them joins the 118, but it still isn't their time. They fall (read: are torn) apart and Buck escapes to music, eventually coming to LA to visit his sister and her new firefighter boyfriend. Surely there are no surprises in store.
