Maven Calore was the second-born Prince. This meant that he had a little more leniency in certain things over his half-brother, Cal - the Crown Prince.
But leniency only stretched so far.
And of course, like always, he finds love in unlikely places. With unlikely people. People that he knew damn well he had no future with, but couldn't help but envision one with them anyway. It was the same with Thomas. That Red boy back in Corvium that met his unlikely end due to his own faults. And now, that love in his heart needed to find a new host.
And that host just so happening to be a girl from House Haven. A spy in training - someone learning to gather information and walk a dangerous, unpredictable path, all in the name of collecting information for the Kingdom of Norta to use against it's enemies.
You'd never be a candidate in Queenstrial. But if you were, he'd have picked you.

“No!” Rin practically screamed, then sighed when they both turned to her expectantly. “I… I kissed him.” Venka looked as if she might shout, I told you so! “That’s not all, though,” Rin added hastily. “I kissed him, and then I slapped him, and then I… I sort of… called him a slut-”
“What?” Kitay asked, looking shocked.
