Lucy takes a deep breath. That moment, she resents the assumption that doors were opened for her because of her last name, that a path was written for her by Patrick and Vanessa Chen, that her way here was basically guaranteed all because she was born into a family of surgical legends.

Dr. Chen puts her hand up, stopping his rebuttal. “I just wanted to reiterate to you that I am more than qualified to be on this mission, and I will not let some jerk with an ego ruin this for me.”
Tim stares at her in shock, unsure of how to respond to this outburst.
Her eyebrow raises, “What? Nothing else you’d like to share about your insistence that I shouldn’t be here?”
Tim takes a breath, slightly shaking out the growing tension in his shoulders. “I believe that you believe you deserve to be here. But understand that if one person in that shuttle doesn’t know exactly what to do in a crisis, we all die.”
Dr. Chen’s lips purse, waiting for him to continue.
“So my apologies if it’s upsetting to you that I don’t trust that someone who hasn’t had the same level of training is joining our crew. Have a nice night, Dr. Chen.”
