Summary
She stands frozen just outside of Robby’s periphery, so Jack sees her first, head lazily turning to face her, unaware of the havoc wreaked by his unexpected appearance. Helpless, she watches as he, too, processes the impossibility of her in this context, as his brain tries to make sense of what is in front of him. There is a subtle widening of his eyes as they track over her face and her body, a parting of his lips, like he might say something.
No, wracks through her brain, no no no. And maybe he can see the word in her expression, in the stiffening of her posture, or maybe he can still read her mind. Because after a moment, his face carefully contorts back into polite blankness, a sharp relief to the panic she is sure is still etched onto her face.

Summary
To his credit, Abbot had been noticing her looking at him and sighing more often. He couldn’t do anything about it though. Wouldn’t. He respected her too much.
So when she asked him for a consult at the very end of their shift together and practically shoved him into an empty patient room, he was rightfully apprehensive.
“Dr. Mohan, what are you doing?”
“What I’ve been wanting to do for weeks now.” She peeked out the door and, after confirming that no one was looking, closed it behind her.
He heard the telltale click of the door being locked. “I’m not sure this is a good idea.”
“I know you don’t. That’s why I’m taking things into my own hands.”

Summary
The distance is working. At least technically. Samira and Jack speak less, they spend less time together, and the flirting has all but disappeared. Everything is simpler and more professional now.
And she has never been more miserable.
