“Good for you?” Shane really didn’t understand where this was going. He assumed Rozanov might spend the day lazing around with his team, or maybe trying to sneak out of the hotel for a smoke break when everyone was occupied.
“You should come to my room. We watch tape together.” He smirks, “I can even give you tips on gameplay.”
Or: Shane just lost to Ilya in the International Prospect Cup. The day after, both teams get snowed in at their hotel in Regina, Saskatchewan, and the rival captains end up spending the day together.

“It’s okay. Really. What’s up?”
“I am at a shitty bar in Pittsburgh. The team is inside, probably way too drunk, and ignoring that we have a game tomorrow. I… fuck. I missed you.”
“Are you drunk?”
Or: Ilya gets drunk, misses Shane, and calls him about it. Also, Cliff Marleau is a good friend.

“Do you want to come over later?” Rozanov breathed out, hurried. If Shane didn’t know him any better, he might think the other man was actually nervous.
Shane stills. “To hook up? You couldn’t have just texted me?”
“No, no, not like that.” He smirks. “Well, maybe like that. If you want.”
“You know I want, asshole.” Shane bites back.
“I want to order take-out and watch a movie.” He continues, “With you. It's lonely here.”
Or: Shane is alone over Thanksgiving break, and Ilya is the only other one on campus.
