Summary
it's been a year since sonic had both met and lost shadow in a stunning move to save the planet he had been keen on destroying before realizing the beauty that his old friend had once seen in it. the crisp air bites at sonic's skin, beckoning him to return inside to his family, but not before he investigated the mysterious gust that passed him by before zipping to his old cave.
or shadow is actually alive, and sonic brings him home to join in on the christmas festivities.

in which sonic plays the role of hero and saves his parttime ally-rival-situationship from a particularly fatal hit, but foolishly ends up injured himself. shadow feels some sense of responsibility aside from an adrenaline response based on previous shortcomings, so he takes him back to his base to tend to his wounds.. but let's just say it doesn't entirely go as planned.

several ( failed ) attempts at a divorce result in a much-needed trip abroad to the wonderful apotos, with a singular shred of hope from two very exhausted wing-women that absolutely need a break from their overly dramatic friends, and have therefore organized their departure for some peace of mind.
..or sonic and shadow give their tax-benefitting marriage one last shot to see if it's there's more to it than that before ultimately filing for a divorce ( once a real lawyer is found ).
