But the stranger did not concede so easily. "You yourself should have the answer. I believe I recognize you now. You are the slayer of Ifrit, are you not? I have heard the stories." The ice of his gaze was sharpening by the moment, brittle and bright like a glacier becoming molten as it refracted the kiss of the sun. "Tell me, what is a hero? You must know. You have become one, after all."
"I am the slayer of Ifrit," the Warrior acknowledged. "That does not make me a hero."

Phainon shook his head with a sigh. “You know,” he began, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the wall, “you’re a lot more attractive if you’re only singing and playing the guitar.”
Mydei frowned at the backhanded compliment. Then, in the hopes of turning this situation on him and catching him tongue tied instead, he raised a brow. “You find me attractive?”
Unfazed, Phainon shrugged. “So what if I do? It doesn’t mean anything.”
He almost convinced both of them that it was nothing. But Phainon’s expression darkened, just a little bit, and he glanced at Mydei once more. “Unless, of course, you want it to.”

Phainon, the white knight of Okhema, has always ached to meet the dragon prince. He ignores every warning to stay away and challenges the monster to a fight. For ten days Phainon clashes with the dragon, only to discover that his foe is too strong. Exhausted and defeated, Phainon expects death, but instead he awakens in the dragon prince’s care.
