A soft hiss in the air. That was his only warning before Rick’s face was stricken and frozen in time. He was given a second of hesitation, a second of blissful ignorance before Rick’s head fell from his shoulders, dropping and rolling on the dirt with a sickening thump.
Drowning in his hysteria, blinded by grief, he nearly missed the blue boots that stepped into his vision. William blinked through the fog of tears, looking up, up, until he found Mark’s impassive face staring down at him.

“Could you, just once in your life, use the door like a normal person?” There’s surprise in his voice, although it is partly masked by annoyance.
“Never learned how. Seems like a waste of time doing that now.” He shrugs and crosses his arms, levels Kyle with a look from head to toe, cataloging the tension in his shoulders, the bags underneath his eyes, the disheveled hair and light bruises peeking from under his clothes, the slight bend in his spine and the muted but pained grin clipped to his lips. “You look like shit,” he points out, the fastest way to gauge his mood.

It suddenly dawns on him — Damian is trapped and he's going to die with Jason Todd.
Somehow, this has become marginally worse than simply dying alone.
