“Hey, baby. Long day?” Dennis asks, leaning over to kiss his cheek.
“Mhm,” Andrew hums rather than try to give a full answer.
“That bad, huh?” Dennis flicks the radio on. “Let's get you home.”
The drive is quiet other than Dennis’ music. Andrew would rather be curled up in his lap, but he knows better. He stays on his side of the car for the drive. Once they make it through his door, he lets himself hug Dennis around the waist, crowding him back against the door before it's even all the way closed.

“We’ve only got one room left.”
Dennis stares blankly at the old woman behind the counter. She taps her long red fingernails against the surface, looking the three of them up and down, waiting for one of them to respond.
Robby clears his throat in front of Dennis. “Um– are you sure that's all you’ve got left?” he pleads, "I'll pay more if I have to.”
The receptionist gives Robby an unimpressed glare, clicking her tongue at him. “There’s just the one. King bed. Bribery won’t getcha’ anywhere. Everyone's packing in for the storm, so we're full up. Sorry.” She didn’t sound apologetic at all. “Take it or leave it.”
“No, we'll take it.” Abbot jumps in, pushing past Robby with his wallet out.

Or, Dennis hitches a ride to a medical conference with his two attendings. A winter storm causes them to stop at a motel for the night. There's only one room available. You know the rest...

Summary
In the two years since his mate died, Jack's been working to heal and move on. Despite the expectation that he'd find a new alpha, Jack's content with his life as it is: he's got his friends, his sister, his two jobs, and a handful of alphas he regularly helps through ruts to sate any sexual needs. He does not need an alpha. But then an unexpected night with a stranger in his first mature rut triggers a flash heat and when the heat haze clears, Jack's got a bite on his neck and an eager young alpha who's convinced they can make a go of it.
Is Dennis right that Jack's finally met his match, or will Jack opt for a six-month bond annulment?
Please note that this fic will deal with Jack's healing from an abusive relationship with his deceased mate. There are no flashbacks, but Jack does reflect on what happened and shares some of it with Dennis in dialogue.
