A pause. A pause of one second. But in that single moment, Satoru can feel his whole world crumbling around him. Because… because that’s not true, right? It’s a joke. Because he can’t really think that—
“I can’t imagine you being the parent of a pup. It seems alien to you. You aren’t meant for those things.”

Summary
“I can’t believe the vet is dating someone like him” one of them whispered just as Yuji passed close by them heading toward the door. Yuji could literally feel half of his body going numb. “You’d expect him to be dating someone decent, not a criminal."
And the thing is, Yuji wasn’t a criminal, not at all. Quite the opposite, actually. He was a firefighter who had survived a serious fire with only some injuries as a result. But surely not everyone thought like that lady… right?
Or: Due to his work as a firefighter, Yuji returns home with two new scars on his face, but with no pain at all. Life, however, takes care of fixing that last part.

Satoru’s phone almost slipped from his now-weak grip. It wasn’t a life-or-death situation. It was worse.
