Summary

Summary
Shane is an English landowner, a veteran of the Great War. His wife Rose died in the influenza pandemic in 1920. Now he lives alone in a crumbling manor house, tended only by his garden - roses, mostly.
Ilya is a 23-year-old Russian botanist, an émigré fleeing the Bolsheviks, who arrives at the manor seeking work. He knows plants; he knows what the soil needs. Shane hires him.
They spend the season together in the garden: planting, pruning, coaxing life from the earth. The attraction is quiet at first, then undeniable.
