Summary
But Alex calls, five years later, out of the blue, and says, voice thin and just this side of desperate, “She said not to call you, you know.” Lena says nothing, only makes a vague humming noise intended to convey some sense of irony. “But she’s being dumb, and I’m not above begging.”
Lena’s jaw clenches. That’s rich, really, the idea that Kara, of all people, thinks herself above things.
“Look, Lena, I know…” Alex starts but then immediately stops, as if she’s realized that there are about fifty ways that sentence can end and precisely none of them are good. Instead, she says, “There’s just nobody else. And we—I really need your help.”
-
aka the one where Lena does what she had always done when faced with the disintegration of a fundamental personal relationship—that is, she ran, until she couldn’t.

Summary
The day after Lena's funeral, Grace pushes a post-it towards Lena across the table and Lena recoils.
“Jeez, Grace, she's been dead for like three days. Cut her some slack,” you say around a mouth full of waffle, but Grace just waves you off and pushes the post-it closer to Lena pointedly.
“I'm sorry, do any of the dozens of dead people we need to get to today look like they care? I'm only giving you one because it's your first day on the job. You're a reaper; you reap. Them's the breaks, kid.”
“I don't want to kill anyone.”
“You're not. They're gonna die anyway. It's fate, or whatever. You're just making sure they can move on to the next place.”
---
Lena dies, but doesn’t get to move on. Sam helps her along the way.

Summary
“Your son is perfectly perfect,” Glinda whispers softly.
“When he’s sleeping, maybe,” Elphaba teases. Still, her green eyes are soft, glancing at him.
“Oh, always,” Glinda argues, hand cupping Liir’s soft, round cheek. He’s so precisely and exactly like Elphaba. “Always, always.”
Or: Completely self-indulgent family fluff, featuring Gelphie as gay moms, Fiyero as a very involved third-wheel father, and, of course, everyone’s best boy Liir.

Summary
Hurriedly crouching down in front of her, Elphaba reaches out to try and still her frantic movements. “He’s wriggling because you’re holding him too tightly— not like that, hang on, Galin— Galinda!”
The lion cub gets his claws caught in her loose blond hair, and Galinda’s shriek goes up an octave.
“Stay still!” Elphaba winces. “Look, just — Galinda!”

Summary
“Such a harsh judge,” Fiyero said with a teasing smirk. “I think Miss Elphaba has forgotten how to be objective.”
Crope laughed and Elphaba’s frown deepened. How unfair. She pointed a long finger at him, nail looking sharper than usual, and said heatedly, “Just because I’m in love with Galinda, it doesn’t mean I can’t be objective. The boundaries were sworn upon. Crope was the last one to touch the shuttle. That makes its Galinda’s point.”
Silence greeted her words, more than she expected, even if they did see sense in her judgment after all. Which, to be honest, she didn’t expect them to. Narrowing her eyes in suspicion, she looked at each of them in turn and was bewildered to see them all in some sort of state of shock.
For his Ozness’s sake, what was it now?
