Colin nuzzled his nose against her jaw. “No, you don’t. You love me.”
“Oh yeah? You think so?” she teased, poking his side.
He lifted his head, his expression serious, but full of emotion. He watched as she stopped grinning playfully, her eyebrows furrowing together as he gazed down at her. “I do think so. And guess what?” He leaned down, his heart about to burst from his chest, and whispered in her ear. “I love you, too.”
She gasped, and he slowly brought his eyes back to hers, afraid of what he might find there. Rejection, fear, pity…
But all he saw was an ecstatic smile, her lips stretched wide, teeth shining bright, eyes filled with happy tears.
“Took you long enough,” she whispered.”

It calmed him, knowing she wasn't getting married today — that for now she was with him, in his car, and he was taking care of her. That way, he could let his mind drift and imagine that she was running away with him on her wedding day, with her beautiful veil on and his leather jacket wrapped around her.
