Reid seems to deflate at that, a soft look entering his eyes. “Yeah,” the younger man looks down at their joined hands, “You’re gonna be okay.” It stays like this for a minute, before Spencer’s eyebrows furrow and he hits Derek lightly on the bicep. “But don’t ever do that again!”
They both know it’s an unreasonable request, given their job, so they burst out laughing together and Finally, Derek thinks, I warmed his heart. Their lips meet again and again, breaking away only because they’re grinning so much.
Or: Derek gets shot on the job and everything sucks for a bit but it's all gonna be okay.
