No one spoke of the woman who gave birth to me.

The birth was too much for my mother’s mortal body to bear. She lived for only four years after that.
I do not remember her face.
But sometimes, when the world grows quiet, I feel warmth where there should be none. I hear a melody too soft to name, like a lullaby carried across time.
And I wonder if that is all that remains of her.
