Jackie asks all of them but she stares at Shauna, even though she has already been convinced. Even though it was half her idea, like most things are with Jackie. Half of Shauna’s too. They are not much good at separateness in this way.
And Shauna thinks, yes, yes, god yes, please. Please let me do this wrong, so then maybe it won’t come out another way. Please, please let us do this wrong. She feels practically ready to kneel at Jackie’s feet in front of the whole room, nose rubbing against her thighs, begging: please, please, let us do it anyways. Even if it's just the two of us. So then I won’t have to ruin us another way. Not again.
