Akechi waited pointedly and cheerfully until every last one of the other Phantom Thieves left the attic. They threw suspicious looks at him, which he pretended to ignore. They tried miming their displeasure to their leader, who only ever shrugged and smiled in a way that offered no insight as to what, if anything, he might be thinking.
Not that the Detective Prince had any more luck figuring him out, but that’s why he was lingering after the meeting. To catch him alone, for one. To take the opportunity to explore his domain and glean what he could from analyzing it.

There’s a long pause as Ryuji takes that in.

Akira looks up. Ryuji looks confused.
"Akechi Goro, Ryuji," Akira's mouth says for him because his mind is already trying to escape the lunacy of this interaction.
Ryuji scratches the back of his neck. "Sorry, man. Y’know how I am with names. Tell me about him, maybe I'll remember."*****
The world wants to erase Akechi Goro from history. Akira is not about to let that happen.

One misunderstanding later and Ren finds himself isolated at school. Burdened by the rumors of his own past-and-present actions. He takes the hand of someone unexpected.

HOLY HELL this is the GOAT Accomplice AU, it’s melting my brain. The way things are foreshadowed and the way a conversation will cut off in one scene and the dawning realization later of what must have transpired, it’s just— I was kicking my feet in delighted horror and laughing at 3 AM and tearing up. Incredible. I’m so glad I read this and so excited to see the rest of Arc III play out.
