Summary
The Doctor is a shell-shocked being stuck in, what appears to be, a vicious cycle of loss. After months of traveling the universe with sadness as his sole companion, he happens upon a precious Southern Belle named Martha Jones who's found herself at Royal Hope London circa 1987, becoming one of the hospital's first black junior physicians. A pleasant surprise find the unlikely pair traversing not only the universe together, but the muddy waters of emotional co-dependence and grief while trying to figure out who they, themselves, actually are.

Carmy ran warm. She saw him strip himself of his woolen jacket and brave Midwestern cold with bare arms and miraculously be without any goosebumps more times than she could count. He surely didn’t need the fuzzy packets of warmth, but he had them. Undoubtedly, he had them for her. Sydney would complain about her constant cold fingers and dry knuckles often, she shouldn’t have been surprised Carmy wasn’t just listening but cataloging the facts about her into some place in his brain. And yet—
It made her ache, to be thought of like that.
