    Khemjira could say, without a shadow of doubt in his mind, that his husband was the best in the world. That man had saved his life countless times and had given him a life overflowing with love, joy and warmth. He would never love another the way he loves Pharan, in this life or the ones he is yet to live. Pharan was the other half of Khem's soul. Every prayer uttered by Khem at night, every wish he made at the altar of deities and every blow of his birthday candles resonated with one desire - please let this man be mine for the rest of eternity. Pharan was, and always will be, the love and light of his life.

     

    So Khem is not to be misunderstood when he says, “For the love of God, Phi. Take your hand off of me!”

    “Peem,” Khem interrupts, fondness overflowing his heart at his lover's worries – as if there was anywhere else he'd rather be. “Look at me. You don't have to worry that much. It's just you and me. I love you. I want you. Do you want me?”

    Peem inhales shakily, hands tightening around his waist.

    “So much.”

    Khem smiles and cradles his face to rub their noses together tenderly. In the glow of the candlelights, Peem's eyes are almost liquid with want.
