* For the third time in Neil didn't know how long, he threw his bag upside down, watching as everything tumbled out. Frantically, Neil folded his clothes in the way his mother taught him, using them to hide his binder close to the bottom, but by the time Neil finished pacing his shirts and hoodies, the bag was full again, and Neil was full of rage and anguish. Neil Josten had spent so long relying on his ability to grab everything in one fell swoop, and run that the thought of having more than one bag made him want to vomit with fear.*

"Kevin looks up at Jean with wide, wet eyes, and Jean can almost see the red and gold of their lovingly decorated apartment morph to funeral black in Kevin's mind. He is a million miles away from the present, back in Riko's room, and Jean and Jeremy were his only lifeline both here and there. This is not unearned fear. Kevin is many things, and Jean may call him a coward to his face, but he is not fragile. Kevin doesn't shatter like this. Kevin is strong, and protective to a fault, and he would never cling to Jean like this if Tetsuji hadn't broken him to nothing while Jean wasn't looking.

Wylan sucks in a breath, steeling himself and getting his order right in his head before opening the door. The sound of the door must have gotten Jesper’s attention, because he looks up from the machine behind the counter and waves.
“Wylan! Hey, you're back,” he says, grinning at Wylan as if he truly is happy to see him. “Nina, look–” he taps her on the shoulder as Wylan walks over.
Nina, who has just finished serving a customer, swats Jesper’s hand away lightly. “Yes, yes, I see him,” she says with an exasperated eyeroll, making eye contact with Wylan afterwards. She smiles at him. “Hey Wylan, what took you so long– I was stuck with only Jesper for conversation for like four days– it takes its toll on a person.”
Wylan, laughing at Jesper’s feigned offence, responds. “I’m sure he’s lovely company to have.”
