Summary
Will looked at him, making eye contact. He was so beautiful like this. His eyes almost sparkled in the light. Mike hadn’t been able to look away, lately. He had been stealing glances from across the room, staring at Will whenever possible.
He knew it was wrong, the feeling he got in his stomach when Will looked back.
OR: Mike and Will duck into a church in the Upside-Down to tend to wounds. Chaos ensues!

Summary
After defeating Vecna, William wakes up to an assortment of injuries, a strange man in his bedroom, shooting pains in his mind that seem to have no rhyme or reason, and no recollection how he'd gotten in that position. The day of the final battle is lost to William's seemingly tampered-with memories, leaving him with abilities he never thought possible for himself. Add to that being ignored by his deity, William feels as though something is terribly wrong.
William employs the help of the strange man—Michael. He seems to be the center of all terrible things that keep happening to William. Despite everything, William starts to form feelings for him during their adventures together, and gets the odd feeling that Michael knows him far better than he claims …

William is a cleric missing his memories, and goes on adventures with his new paladin friend Michael that seems to be far too familiar with William, in order to get his memories back.

Summary
What initially begins as Mike and Will calling each other exaggeratedly cheesy pet names to mess with Max and Lucas starts spiralling into something a lot more intimate and dangerous. Will isn't really sure where they managed to lose the plot, or how far they can go before there's no turning back.
Or: Max and Lucas go through a late honeymoon phase. It's excessive. It's gross. Mike and Will (well, mostly Mike) decide to engage in exaggerated bouts of PDA to demonstrate how disgusting the couple are being. It starts to get out of control pretty quickly.

“We haven’t done this since middle school,” Will says, voice barely above a whisper.
“Huh,” Mike whispers back. “Yeah, guess not.”
A couple years ago, Mike read a National Geographic article about a phenomenon called the polar night. In the farthest north and south regions of the globe, there are weeks, sometimes months depending on how close you are to the poles, where the sun does not rise above the horizon, plunging the world into a perpetual nighttime. Living in such conditions, the article had explained, can affect one’s circadian rhythm, heighten issues with concentration and energy levels, and cause a spike in depressive symptoms among local populations. Some resort to using light therapy lamps to mimic the daylight.
It was only after the Byers moved away, all those years ago, that Mike began to understand what the prolonged absence of the sun can do to a person.
The Upside Down is gone, and everyone has made it out unscathed. In the aftermath of the not-so-end of the world, snowballs turn into avalanches. Sometimes it just takes time.
or: Mike gets into Brown, Will gets into RISD, and the friends-to-???-to-lovers slowburn that ensues.

Summary
District 12's Will Byers has never claimed to be lucky for a single day of his life, but being reaped for the hunger games twice in a span of five years? That has to be a joke, even for someone as unlucky as he is.
At the very same time, Mike Wheeler from District 1 could not care less if he wins or not. The Games are not terrifying to him, they’re just something he exists for now. He doesn’t want to die, sure, but living in such a boring, repetitive world doesn’t mean much to him anyways.
Really, neither of them expected to find love in this hell on earth.

Vecna’s plan fails when Max escapes death by the skin of her teeth. They’re still not 100% sure that he’s dead. El closes the three gates left open, and still, they anxiously wait for the day of his return.
Two years pass by.
They’re still scared, but they’re starting to think that maybe this time it’s really over. This time, maybe Vecna’s really gone. This time, they're done with the Upside Down forever. And it’s a relief. Right?
"Every time we made contact with the Upside Down again, a little part of me actually believed we’d finally find you. And… each time we finished fighting… I’d feel… disappointed. Is that crazy to say?"
