Summary
Harry Potter was seven years old, and he was not a soft boy. He wasn’t a fighter either – not yet – but he could be. He could grow used to being unloved and start thinking that any care was better than none at all. He could grow up and think his life was worth less than other people’s. He had the potential to become a martyr, willing to die so others could live because he himself had never experienced the joy being alive could bring. He could become a hero and follow the script set out for him to a T – he could become nothing more than the idea of himself, selfless and resilient and married with three kids burdened by dead names to a wife people kept remarking had a stunning resemblance to his own mother.
Harry Potter could have saved the world by doing all of that – but, unfortunately, or very fortunately, for Harry at least – he did not.
Because at seven years old, Harry Potter was dead.
