Laudna gasped as the blade sliced deeply across her torso, cutting through her belt and tearing a gash in her chest. She pulled her hands in reflexively and sank to the floor as blood spurted out of the wound. Imogen watched, eyes wide in horror, as Laudna’s belt fell to the ground. Pâté landed with his legs splayed out pitifully, the bird skull clattering a few feet away as Laudna’s beautiful spool of red thread unrolled across the cobblestones.
