Summary
“You saw me,” Louis says, and it’s getting harder for him to speak. To say all this out loud to Lestat’s face is hard – he’s not sure he ever has said these things to him – but he’s determined to say what he has to say. “You saw me, when I’d felt unseen all my life. You were my partner. And you were Claudia’s father.”
At this, Lestat lets out a choking sob and shakes his head, and Louis lets go of his face and moves forward to hug him. Lestat buries his face in Louis’ shoulder and puts his arms around him.
“You were,” he whispers in Lestat’s ear while Lestat is still crying, Louis’ own tears choking him. “You were her father. You bought her beautiful clothes, and you taught her how to drive, and how to hunt, and how to play the piano and chess. You made her laugh by reenacting stupid movies or Shakespeare plays.”

After their reunion in New Orleans, Lestat feels lost and like he doesn't know who he is anymore after decades of being alone with his thoughts. Louis helps him find a way back to himself, and spending time with Lestat again makes Louis embrace feelings he hasn't previously admitted to himself.
