Summary
Death is everywhere if you think about it, from a family member’s funeral to stepping on ants. When you compare the two side by side, one stands out as significantly more important. One is more worth mourning.

Summary
“However, the CT scan and the subsequent MRI revealed something concerning.” He turns a page. “We found evidence of a rare neurological conduction. The rapid onset suggests an aggressive form. Based on the progression we’re seeing in your brain tissue, particularly in the cerebral cortex and brainstem…”
The doctor continues speaking, but his words begin to lose their edges, slurring together into medical terminology that floats around Nam-gyu like falling snow. Strange, how the most important words of his life sound like they’re being spoken underwater, directed at someone else.
“...approximately three weeks, given the current rate of deterioration.”
Nam-gyu blinks. The doctor is looking at him expectantly, waiting for some sort of reaction to what he’s just said. Three weeks. The words finally penetrate through the fog.
“Three weeks until what?” Nam-gyu asks, though he already knows the answer.
The doctor’s expression softens slightly—professional sympathy, carefully measured.
“Until the condition reaches its terminal stage. I’m very sorry, Mr. Jang.”

Summary
A particularly bold angelfish tries to approach with nothing but its own colorful presence to offer. No gift, no tribute, just a haughty flutter of iridescent fins—like its beauty alone should grant it access. It swims right up to the invisible barrier Su-bong has established, completely ignoring the massive shark circling below it.
It doesn’t even make it within ten feet.
Suddenly, Su-bong emerges from the depths, all of him suddenly visible—powerful shoulders, tattoos and stripes adorning his body, the heavy silver cross resting against his chest. With a sharp, dismissive flick of his tail, he sends the angelfish tumbling backward in an undignified spiral.
Before it can recover, Su-bong flicks it with one tattooed finger—almost contemptuous in how little effort he uses—and the angelfish goes spinning off into the reef.
“Su-bong,” Nam-gyu sighs.
“No gift, no audience,” Su-bong says, voice flat and final. His dark eyes tracking the fleeing angelfish with satisfaction.
The angelfish doesn’t come back, wisely choosing survival over pride.
