“This isn’t, like, a common occurrence,” Mike says in a rush, desperate beyond reason for this stranger to know that. “I’ve only lost my wallet three times before. This would be the fourth. You caught me on a bad week.”
Will’s expression does not settle into one of impressed admiration. His eyebrows raise in shock, though it’s clear that it’s not at Mike’s amazing organizational skills. “Four?” he asks, accepting the change that the cashier holds over the counter. He grabs onto Mike’s wrist, dumping it straight into his open palm. “Here. Buy yourself a key ring, for both of our sakes.”

Mike is a magnet for trouble— from the smallest inconvenience to the most dangerous of situations. Will always seems to be there to bail him out.

Summary
“Nothing,” Will says, right into Mike’s ear. “Still feeling good?”
So good. Mike makes sure to not say it aloud this time. “I think,” Mike says slowly, heart pounding, “I need” — Will pulls back just a little, just enough for their noses to bump against each other, clumsy, and Mike bites the bullet — “one more.”
Will is still in Mike’s lap, which is maybe not very platonic of him, and the joint has smoldered its way down to the end, nearly over, all eaten up by the fire. Will swallows thickly, then leans closer, a perfect imitation of their positions from earlier. Mike isn’t sure how long it’s been, but fire has been eating away at him too, this whole time, leaving him on the brink of going up in smoke, slow and burning and so good.“Yeah?” Will murmurs, realization dawning on him, eyes wide. “One more?”
or: Mike’s still new to this whole smoking thing. Will has a few ideas.

Summary
Mike thinks back to the painting Will gave him, rolled up and placed carefully in his dresser drawer, because for some reason it felt too wrong to hang it up on the walls with everything else. Too intimate. Like Will had made it for his eyes only. Or, apparently as everyone else thought, some mystery lover in California. And then he thinks about Will dozing off on his bed, and saying I think I’m in love with you all soft and slowed down from the inertia of sleep, and that’s right about when Mike starts to feel seriously lightheaded. He leans back against his bed and focuses very hard on taking deep, even breaths.
Mike contemplates his feelings for Will Byers, partakes in a concerning amount of swooning, and learns to drive. Sort of.
