Summary
What a vision James was in uniform: jacket tapering down to his narrow waist, a neat row of gilded buttons pointing right at the fork of his trousers, the ensemble adorned with glinting epaulettes on his broad shoulders and tall leather boots on his slender legs.
And those gloves. Francis had spent all night staring at his gloves.

Summary
Crozier’s decanter is empty. He rings for Jopson, whom he knows will appear almost immediately, almost as though he’d nothing to do but wait in the dark for a summons. Impeccable but for the one disobedient lock of dark hair he must constantly smooth back, he won’t mind if the captain’s gaze lingers longer than it ought on his trim form, his pale eyes. He does not deserve Jopson but he has him: two truths which both of them tacitly acknowledge.

Summary
This is a reference guide intended to help writers of Regency-era stories by providing a quick place to check whether a certain phrase was in use in the era, and if so, how it was used. The earliest attestation dates of phrases that postdate the Regency era might also make this guide useful to writers of neo-Victorian fiction.

Summary
He imagined they would think of him differently if they knew Crozier had once had him flogged. Perhaps they would respect him more. Then again, perhaps they would assume he was only obedient because he was afraid. It was unlikely, Jopson expected, that anyone would see it the way he had chosen to – as something like a baptism.
In which Jopson gets flogged, Crozier remembers, and both of them are Extremely Normal about this. Rated Mature for violence; this isn't strictly slash, in that nobody in this story is fully admitting their feelings even to themselves, but it isn't strictly gen either.

Summary
Thomas was a whore, and he fancied himself rather good at it.
Following the voyage to Antarctica, Jopson finds that sex work is the best way to put food on the table and accommodate the need to be available for his mother and brother during the day. Of all the people to come into Madam Rachel's molly house, he certainly wasn't expecting to see his old captain again.

Francis must have asked him, somewhere amid his delirum. He must have confessed. For here he is - his faithful steward, who obeys him in everything no matter how preposterous - with one hand planted by Francis' shoulder to hold himself up, and the other working below, two fingers pressed deep within him.

Summary
“Oh, you’re getting pink,” Alex observes fretfully, touching Tommy’s shoulder. And it’s true. Despite the faithful application of sunblock, a rosy stain spreads across his back and chest and brow, tinges the neat bridge of his nose.
“Ah, I always burn,” he sighs. “Even with sunblock on.”
In truth, Alex finds it charming, the boys—his boys, at least for the moment—all ruddy from the sun, vital and gleaming with sweat.
“We could go in,” he suggests, fortifying himself inwardly against the moment either of them will hem, hesitate, say, well, actually, we’d better be going—but that moment hasn’t arrived yet for each smiles in his way, Tom big and open and Tommy’s more thoughtful and wry, and they begin picking up the remnants of their repast.

Summary
By all accounts, Brighton was a pleasant and healthful seaside resort. James’s doctor had recommended he summer there, as the clean sea air and cool saltwater would do wonders for the joints that occasionally pained him still. And in addition to the restorative properties of the sea, the city boasted frequent social opportunities and creature comforts. The monarchy, of course, had had its residence there, but the sale of the Royal Pavilion to the city that very year seemed not to have abated the enthusiasm of many notable persons, as well as their gawkers and hangers-on, for the city in general and the Pavilion in particular.

Summary
(I had the curious impression, Stanley had explained to him once, flatly over tea, his one good eye studying the swan’s-neck bend of Alexander’s wrist as he poured, as I stood burning, that I was alive at last, alive amongst the living, and it was indeed all suffering.
To be quite fair, Alexander murmured, setting the teapot down, you did catch us at a disadvantageous moment.)
