Edgeworth tried not to get involved in others' personal affairs. But if he let Gumshoe go to his ex's wedding alone, the man would be miserable and useless. And he was hardly going to get someone get away with humiliating his detective.
He could play pretend for one night. And that's all it was, of course. Pretend.

Miles Edgeworth has no romantic interest in Phoenix Wright. His libido disagrees, but he's not inclined to letting it call the shots. Still, he finds himself uncomfortably distracted, and he's got to do something about it. That "something" winds up being an arrangement with Detective Gumshoe. Purely physical, of course.

Gerard thought long and hard, then got irritated with himself. Why am I even considering this? He had always been an outcast. He was extremely socially awkward, extremely self-conscious, and hated large crowds to boot.
Maybe this could be a good way to make some new friends. Live a little. The tiny angel on his shoulder presented a fair argument, though it wasn’t strong enough to sway him in any particular direction. The devil on his shoulder, however, presented a perspective that piqued his interest.
Halloween is the one night a year when you can be someone you’re not.
