“Mmmh. Hi,” Phoenix mutters right into the crook of his neck. He can feel the warmth of it through his collar and wants nothing more than to take his jacket off right then and there.
“Hello,” he replies, using his free arm to return the embrace. Phoenix continues hugging him, but makes no move to invite him inside. “Er, I thought I’d drop by for dinner… if that is alright with you, of course? I brought Thai.” At that, Phoenix releases him, unresponsive despite the dopey grin on his face, and Miles starts to worry that he’s overstepped.early relationship stoner shenanigans.

“Hey Klavier, I need your signature on—” The face staring back at him is not the one he expects to see.
It’s not the first time he’s seen one of Klavier’s friends lingering around his office, his manager frequently dropped by during lunch breaks, but he’d never seen this woman before. She’s gorgeous (like most of Klavier’s friends), with high cheekbones, warm bronze skin, glossy dark hair, and a chic black outfit. Klavier was nowhere to be seen, even though he had a guest, and his workday was set to end in about 10 minutes.

At 6:30 Franziska wakes to the sound of her girlfriend’s morning meditation alarm, at 4:37 she’s watching a Khan Academy video with Pearl, trying to understand proportional relationships, and by 9:51 Franziska has checked her inbox, said her goodbyes, and called a cab for LAX. Her week of inactivity crawls to a close.

Summary
The trial was over, lives no longer at stake, the risks no longer present, and yet they seemed to gravitate back into whatever this was again and again, case after case. This was Miles’s favorite type of conversations with Wright – when they were on the same side, and the court was empty, but what they said to each other still mattered. From the look in Phoenix’s eyes (determined, relaxed, thrilled, hopeful, ???), he suspected his preference was shared.
As nice as that was, he also strongly preferred winning this ridiculous argument to losing. He had a suspicion the feeling was frustratingly mutual.
In the end, all it takes is a bad cup of tea and a leap of faith.
