Jay was exhausted. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d slept more than two hours, much less without the nightmares. His mother’s voice telling him he should just go die, his dad drunk, that thing in the woods, the masked figures—they all made his skin crawl.
He glanced at the bright red digital clock on the motel wall. 3 a.m. The “perfect” time, Jay thought bitterly, a small chuckle escaping him. He sighed and shut his laptop. He wasn’t finished with what he’d been doing, but he supposed he could take a break.
