Summary
Two fractured people. One impossible thing between them.
Andrew doesn't hope. Hope is just loss that hasn't happened yet, and Andrew has had enough loss to last several lifetimes. He exists on the margins of his own life, keeping everyone at a careful distance, surviving one day at a time and calling it enough.
Neil is a dead man on borrowed time. He is chronically ill, the Moriyamas' circuit has its hooks in him too deep to pull out and his father is after him, ready to kill. He is meant to die one way or another.
They find each other at the bottom. Two people who had already stopped expecting anything good, stumbling into something that feels impossibly close to hope.
For a while, it almost is. But fate doesn't negotiate.
Neil cannot outrun what's always been waiting for him. Andrew cannot outrun the loss that's always been coming.
They were never meant to survive, let alone love.
Glimpse:
"Andrew didn't want to die anymore. He just didn't know how to live either." - Andrew
"Death sounded like a promise from here. He knew, that his last breath would be the best one he'd ever taken." - NeilAlternate Universe, Soul crushing angst

Bookmarker's Notes
Such a beautifully written fic. I love angst and typically shy away from mcd fics BUT this one got me hooked and how everything was written was perfect esp about anticipatory death and grief 💞

Summary
Neil Josten has spent his whole life running—from his father, from his name, from the moment he knows is coming. Figure skating was supposed to be a way to exist without hiding. Instead, it got him disqualified, erased, and left sleeping in a storage closet.
Andrew Minyard doesn't skate for joy. He skates for money and because Kevin Day showed up at his rink one night with a broken hand and nowhere else to go. Touch is not an option. Trust is not a word in his vocabulary.
They're forced to skate together anyway.
Now they have one year to qualify for the Olympics. One year to learn lifts and spins and the impossible art of being seen. One year before Neil's past catches up and takes everything.
But Andrew keeps looking at him like he's worth staying for. And Neil keeps thinking that maybe—just maybe—somewhere in the arc of Andrew's blade, he's finally found someplace he doesn't have to run from.
