    Summary

The Opera Ghost is real. And it's not who you think it is.

Basically, this is a reader insert AU where the reader is Erik's childhood friend turned lover who died before he traveled abroad, and became an actual ghost that's haunting the Paris opera house.

The following is based off of a translated version of Gaston Leroux's Phantom Of The Opera, the book, and not its adaptations. Some dialogue is taken directly from the original text uploaded on the Internet Archive.

    Summary

Erik Dunbar, owner of the Palais Garnier and the Opera Populaire opera company, is a disfigured recluse who runs his theater from behind the scenes. His friend and colleague, Nadir Khan, is the 'face' of the theater.
After the disaster of the counterweights failing caused the central chandelier to fall, trapping one of the actors onstage, Erik is aided by a redheaded young woman who was a witness to the event.
Amelia Foster, a painfully shy young woman, is in Paris visiting her loathsome cousin for the Season. When she aids the expensively dressed man in freeing the trapped actor, she feels as though she's being seen for the first time in her entire life. When she finds the courage to offer financial aid in the restoration and reopening of the theater, she discovers a bit of a mystery- and falls in love with the mysterious man who lives beneath the opera house.
Surprises are in store for the young woman- and for the gruff masked man, as well.

    Summary

After the death of the Phantom of the Opera, the Palais Garnier is thought safe once more. But when a new rat-catcher for the Opera disappears into the cellars and never returns, his daughter descends in search of him - only to stumble into the labyrinth and into the hands of the very monster Paris believed was long gone.

Erik, volatile and broken after Christine's departure, finds in her both torment and tether. What begins as captivity soon blossoms into something far more dangerous. His grief, volatility and desperate genius ensnares her in music, madness, and possession. She cannot deny her fear - nor her pity, nor the shadow of affection that begins to grow in the darkness between them.

To survive Erik is to know him - yet to know him is to risk never escaping him at all.
